History: | The name given to the mountain which is the summit of the Mazatzal Range. It is an appelation of long standing. It is particularly fitting, in that 'four' was the sacred (magic) number among the Apaches, just as 'seven' was with our ancestors (US-T121). The variant name resulted from the skirmishes the soldiers from Fort McDowell fought with the Indians near this mountain between 1867 and 1874 (AZ-T101/p. 244-5). |
