History: | The name 'Lithodendron (fossil trees) Creek' was first published for this feature by Lieutenant A.W. Shipple in 1854 and by subsequent authors until 1883. The General Land Office map of 1883 and subsequent maps published the name 'Carrizo Creek' while a U.S. Geological Survey map published 1892 showed 'Lithodendron Wash'. The name, 'Carrizo Wash' first appeared on maps in 1908 and was approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names on April 5, 1915. On November 3, 1915, the Board rescinded the action and approved the name 'Lithodendron Wash'. The 1939 decision clarified the 1915 decsion for 'Lithodendron Wash' (US-T121). |
