History: | Named for J.H. Baker, a pioneer rancher who had a cabin on this mountain. The name 'Fray Marcos Mountain' was approved earlier to honor Fray Marcos de Niza, who was probably the first to explore Arizona in 1539, but local residents used 'Baker Mountain.' Baker Horse Mountain and Horse Mountain were used on private maps in 1914 and 1908, respectively (US-T121). |
