| History: | The name is derived from the Navajo Indian word 't-sey' meaning 'among the cliffs'. Captain Alexander William Doniphan, among the first to record its name, called it 'Canon de el Challe'. Subsequently, it has been called 'Canon of Cheille (1849), Canon del Chille, and 'Canon Chenelle' (map 1860), as well as other spellings (AZ-T101). |
