History: | The original name, Penhatchapet, was derived about 1865 from a spring on the mountains slope called Pen-Hatchai-pet Water. The spring wass called Hocquahala Springs (Mohave word for 'running water' or 'water there is, high up) by 1869. Various spellings, Huacahella Mountains and Har-qua-halle Mountains, and Hacquehila Mountains, have been used to express the name (AZ-T101). |
