History: | Lieutenant N. Michler of the Boundary Survey Commission referred to these mountains in 1854 as 'Avie Tok-a-va or Dome Mountain' and as Sierra de San Pedro as it resembled a cathedral. A Department of New Mexico 1859 map shows the 'Sierra Mo-Quin-To-Ora or Dome Mountains' in this area, but, because of the generalization of the map, one cannot tell if the names apply to the Castle Rock Mountains or to the Dome Rock Mountains (AZ-T101). |
